Description of the workshop:
In predicament bondage, the tied person is placed in a dilemma where they must balance between two or more uncomfortable positions. To relieve the pain or discomfort caused by the ropes, the rope bottom has to maintain the positions themself. For the rigger, this creates the opportunity to witness the gradual escalation of struggle and suffering.
Predicaments often make use of muscle fatigue and physical instability, which can evoke a wide range of emotions in the tied person: vulnerability, frustration, despair and pleasure, not to forget laughter.
In this workshop, we teach the basics of floor level predicament bondage. We will focus on safer ways to create predicaments, and on how they affect both body and mind.
NOTE! Participants who already have the skills to perform suspension bondage may, if they wish, adapt some of the exercises into suspensions and use the time reserved for the latter part of the workshop to explore their own suspension-based predicaments. However, suspension techniques will not be taught in this workshop. The teachers can still aid you with your experiments.
Requirements for participation:
- Pairs must have good communication and a shared interest in exploring predicaments.
- Both partners must have basic knowledge of nerve safety and general risks related to rope bondage.
- The rigger must be fluent in the basics of rope handling and have experience tying harnesses from memory.
- The rigger must be able to tie a well-fitting upper body harness from memory, efficiently and smoothly. The harness must be comfortable even when the bottom is lying on their side.
- The rope bottom must have prior experience of being tied.
Please note that predicaments can be demanding for the body. Some exercises in this workshop require the ability to be on the knees. Participants should be aware of each other's physical limitations and risk factors. Not all predicaments taught in the workshop will suit every body. In some cases, positions can be modified to make them more accessible. The workshop is structured to provide variety in positions.
If you are unsure whether your skill level is suited for this workshop, or if the bottom has medical conditions, physical limitations or injuries that could affect the safe execution of predicaments, you are welcome to consult the instructor, Elie, by email: elieshibari@gmail.com
