The Basics of (Semi-)Suspension Sunday November 30 at 13:00

TIME:
30.11.2025 1p.m.-5 p.m. (Duration: 4h, including a snack break)

Arriving from the side of Aura river: From the courtyard of Manilla, take the stairs up on your left and enter the door. Go slightly to the left and you see the clotherack and the door of the studio. On the very left there are the glass doors to the lounge of Aurinkobaletti and on the right there is Tehdas Teatteri. The studio is between these two.

Description of the workshop:
In this workshop we learn the basics of suspension techniques by tying in semisuspension. In semisuspension the tied person will have some of their body hanging and supported by the ropes and some of their weight resting on the floor. This workshop is good for example for those who have been tying on floor level for a fairly long time and would like to add new options and challenges into their play.
Contents of the workshop:
- Risk awareness
- The requirements of the suspension point, space and ropes
- Attaching suspension line to the harness
- Lifting the suspension line
- The frictions and lockoffs of the suspension line
- Weight distribution in rope
- Semisuspension trials
- Tips and inspiration for semisuspensions
Participation requirements for the person tying:
- A lot of experience tying on the floor level
- Good understanding of the basics of ropebondage, such as frictions
- Is able to tie several rope patterns from memory and fluently
- Is able to tie harnesses with even tension.
- Is able to tie an upper body harness that is suitable for suspension for the person they are attending the workshop with
Participation requirements for the person being tied:
- A lot of earlier experience of being tied
- Good understanding of their own body, their boundaries and their needs
Other important information:
Both the person tying and the person being tied are well aware of basic nerve safety regarding rope bondage and their communication and negotiation works well.
It is not possible to switch the roles of who is tying and who is getting tied in this workshop.
If participants show lacking skills during the workshop, the teachers have the right to ask the participant to implement the exercise in an easier way or to not do it at all and bystand.

BRING WITH YOU:
Enough ropes (suitable for suspension) to create harnesses, plus at least three ropes for uplines. It is important that the upline ropes are in good condition (There are some additional ropes to buy in the event).
Own carabiners (if you have some). Carabiners need to be climbing carabiners that have a weight rating.
Water bottle, note-taking tools (optional), snacks and comfortable clothes.
LANGUAGE:
In Finnish (English according to participant needs).
Please let us know if you need tuition in English so we can prepare for it.
It is also possible for us to instruct English speaking participants after the common Finnish parts of the workshop.
