Introduction to rope bondage workshop

TIME:

12.10.2025, 12 a.m.-4 p.m. (Duration: 4h, including a snack break) Please arrive at least 15 minutes before the workshop starts.

PLACE:

Manilla Jokistudio, Itäinen Rantakatu 64 B, Turku

Description of the workshop:

This workshop is designed to build a strong foundation for your shibari practice and create understanding on the basics of rope bondage. In this workshop, we concentrate on tying technique but also learn about building a connection with your partner using rope. This workshop is suitable for total beginners who have never touched a rope but also for people who have more experience and want to strengthen their basic skills. By the end of this workshop you will have learned the basic skills to create a ropebondage session. In this workshop we follow the Turku Peer Rope safer space guidelines.

Contents of the workshop:

  • Short history of Japanese rope bondage
  • Information on rope safety
  • Rope handling
  • Single and double column ties
  • Beginner ties with counter tension
  • Extending the rope
  • Locking a tie
  • Moving the tied body and connection
  • Sessioning and negotiation

Requirements for attending:

  • You don't need previous experience on the subject of the workshop.
  • You may only attend with a pair. Switching roles (who is tying and who is getting tied) is ok in this workshop.

AGE LIMIT: K18

The teachers for this workshop are Elie (ig and fet:@elie_shibari) and Satu, who are both Turku Peer Rope organizers.

ABOUT THE SPACE:

  • Arrival instructions: when you arrive at the courtyard of Manilla you will find the door to Jokistudio on the right corner (viewed from the river) alongside the river.
  • The floor of Jokistudio can be a bit chilly and hard so we recommend you take your own yoga mat and warm socks with you (There are a few tatamis to loan if you don't have your own yoga mat.).
  • Accessibility: Jokistudio is accessible via a freight elevator. If you need to use the elevator please contact us beforehand through email to: elieshibari@gmail.com

BRING WITH YOU:

  • Ropes (if you have some), water bottle, snacks, note taking equipment, comfy clothes, warm socks and a yoga mat. You don't need to have your own ropes to attend this class. There will be ropes and a few tatami’s to borrow.

LANGUAGE:

In Finnish mainly or in English according to participant needs. Please let us know if you need tuition in English so we can prepare for it. It is also possible for us to instruct English speaking participants after the common Finnish parts of the workshop.
